Character – What Do You Look Like To Others?

Character is that of a person or place consisting of all the qualities they have that make them distinct from other people or places. We see people judge others by their character, but have you thought about what others think of your character? How would you describe your character or how you believe others see you?

Stephen R. Covey wrote one of the bestselling books on self-improvement of all time and one of the most influential. The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People sold more than 25 million copies worldwide since its first publication in 1989. His book has been translated into 38 languages. In 1996, Time magazine named him one of the 25 most influential people.

Covey challenges us in the first habit to examine our own character, to decide how to view ourselves and our situations, and to control our own effectiveness. This is important because it implies we can learn the art of ethical behavior and apply it to life’s circumstances.

Here is a video that will give you some insight into your own character and get your brain started to find yours. It can be found on my Facebook Group page. If you would like to join the group, please click the link facebook.com/groups/thinkmefirst.

Character

Character is made up of three qualities:

Integrity

The quality of being honest and having strong moral principles and moral uprightness.

There are two types of Integrity:  public and private.

Public integrity is what others see in you.

Private is the integrity you have by keeping promises to yourself. If you don’t have integrity for yourself, you will have less confidence.

Maturity

Maturity is the ability to respond to the environment,  being aware of the correct time and location to behave, and knowing when to act, according to the circumstances and the culture of the society one lives in.

There are two qualities that create maturity: courage and consideration.

Courage is the willingness and ability to speak your thoughts and feelings respectfully.

Consideration is the willingness to and ability to listen to others’ thoughts and feelings respectfully.

Abundance

To have an abundance of something is to have more than you need.

There are two components to abundance: scarcity mentality and abundance mentality.

Scarcity mentality is a source of stress and limits possibilities that the mind cannot get over. Whereas, abundance mentality opens up opportunities.

To conclude, your character is who you are from both the inside and outside perspectives.  Take the time to reflect on who you really are in regards to your character.
