Self-improvement – 15 Tips to Change Your Life For Better

Self-Improvement doesn’t have to be a mind-blowing change. It can be simple. Read on to find 15 tips for self-improvement to change your life for the better today.

Even though self-improvement can be a simple process, you still, as with anything else you want to be successful with, have to be consistent, determined and have the willingness to achieve. With that being said, start today. If you start later, it will feel as if you’ll never make it.

Watch this video to find out more about 15 tips for self-improvement. 😊 It can also be found on my Facebook Group page. If you would like to join the group, please CLICK HERE.

15 Self-Improvement Tips to Change Your Life

1. Be willing to work hard

Like anything else, you need to work at it.  Action is what’s important here and the results will be seen in the end.

2. Make sure you have friends who you can talk to

We discussed this at great length in episode 28, Choosing the Right Friends.

Communication with friends and family is huge. They know you best and will give you feedback whether it is good or bad. And frankly, there is no bad feedback. If you have weaknesses, this gives you an idea of things you may need to work on.

We need people in our corner when times are rough.

Make sure you have a great support system in place.

3. Adapt your circumstances rather than overthinking them

Sometimes we hit hard times: job loss, divorce, loss of a loved one, etc…

Instead of overanalyzing the situation, learn to adapt to it, and accept it as it is. Most of the time we are over-analyzing what we do not have control over.

I have an article, How to Find Identity-Be Like Water, that gives a perfect example of adapting to be like water. Bruce Lee reminds us of the way water adapts to change. When water gets cold, it solidifies. When it gets hot, it turns back to a liquid.

Think about it. What does water do when it hits a rock? it takes another path.

4. Ensure you use your time wisely

Look at how you currently spend your day. You work all day, get home, eat, and then sit in front of the TV for the rest of the evening.

Time on earth is precious and relatively short. So, make the most of it.

  • Learn something new
  • Go for a walk
  • Meditate
  • Read
  • Fishing/Hunting

Whatever it is, make sure you enjoy doing it!

5. Always be consistent

Self-improvement means making changes to the ways you do things.

When I was going through my darkest times I would often schedule things with friends with the intent of fulling my word. But when it was time to do whatever it is we scheduled, I baled on them. Much of that was from my depression.

But, I changed that.

I was also bad about starting exercise programs and would quit about 2-3 weeks in.

But, I changed that as well.

I found an exercise that I really enjoyed.

Sometimes it may take a few changes and tweaks to make things happen. Regardless, stay consistent. Make commitments and keep them. By doing this, they make you more confident and happier with yourself.

6. Go and find your happy place

Now I’m not saying to go out to your favorite bar and restaurant to drink and eat your blues away. (Although, I do have a particular spot I go to when I need a pick-me-up. 🤣)

Your happy place is where you find peace.

For me, it is usually outside visiting with nature. Or I can be found in a dark quiet room, meditating or relaxing.

Mediating is a great way to find your happy place because it brings you back and ensures you are always living in the present moment.

7. Make sure you embrace ALL of your emotions

Life throws us curve balls and often times, we are not prepared for those moments.

With this last-minute change, there could be a whole array of emotions such as, but not limited to:

  1. Fear
  2. Joy
  3. Sadness
  4. Overwhelmed
  5. Angry
  6. Happy
  7. Content

Embrace them all! It’s okay. The key is to understand why they are there and then let them go!

Do not try and dismiss or resist, as that will only make the problem persist.

8. Always be prepared to step out of your comfort zone

Self-improvement is always in action. And stepping out of your comfort zone can be a process. The thought of stepping out of your comfort zone can be frightening. On the other hand, some view it as a challenge.

Keep in mind, this doesn’t have to be something as big as climbing a mountain or running a marathon. It can be as simple as trying new food, journaling, listening to podcast, etc…

9. Be on hand to help others

Not only is self-improvement for yourself, but you can help others achieve it too. This can be anything from helping a neighbor, a person on the street, a family member, and so on.

Helping others in a time of need can do wonders for your self-esteem, all the while helping others. It also helps give you a sense of purpose and it can take your mind off of your own issues and problems for a moment.

10. Live in the present moment

This is a wonderful self-improvement tool.

Appreciate and see all you have in the simplest form.

Only the present moment exists.

We often spend so much time focusing on the past or the future, we miss what is right in front of us.

11. Learn something new

Learning something new can:

  • Boost confidence
  • Boost self-esteem
  • A great way to meet new people

If you continuously enhance your brain activity, you will feel on top of your game. You’ll want to share your knowledge with those you know. It’s empowering to know something and e able to use it to improve your friend and your confidence.

12. Exercise daily

Exercise is important to your health and spirit. This includes your self-improvement.

This doesn’t mean you need o go out and get a gym membership. There are plenty of free workouts on YouTube, you can take a walk, yard work,  and lately, I saw a picture of my friends out playing sand volleyball.

It’s also not about getting that perfect body or losing weight. It’s about feeling good both inside and out.

13. Go to new places and travel a bit

Get out and go somewhere new. Perhaps a new park or restaurant is in the area.

If you can travel further, try another state or country. Traveling to either can be an eye-opening experience. But you can get a similar experience at a local level with different ethnicities and diversity.

Too often we stay in the same place and with the same people.

14. Listen to uplifting music/dance

Confession: I am a huge K-pop fan. I have traveled to a few states to catch a few concerts.

Music lets it all go and dancing is exercise! You can kill two birds with one stone.

Both also make you feel great. They can release all kinds of emotions. And it lets us forget about serious stuff for a moment.

15. get up earlier than normal

I save this one for last because it’s one of those self-improvement tips that we all know is a good thing, yet we seem to avoid.

Think about it. The earliest part of the day is when the brain is most active and alert because it’s been turned off for the last seven hours.

Perhaps this is when we should be exercising, meditating, or dancing?

Doing these things in the morning can get your day heading in a positive direction.
