How To Create A “Can Do” Attitude To Succeed In Life

So, how do you create a ‘can do” attitude to succeed in life?

Everything we do in life starts with an attitude. This attitude can either be negative or positive.

If you lean more towards a negative attitude, your entire outlook on life will decrease your ability to succeed. It will inhibit you from obtaining your dreams and goals.  Things may not happen for you with this type of attitude.

Powerful and Practical Ideas For That “Can Do” Attitude

1. It all starts with a mindset

I am an athlete. Almost everything athletic comes easy for me. I’ve played hockey, danced, basketball, softball, volleyball, track, tennis, etc.

My kids are pretty athletic too. They all ran track and asked me what I ran. I said bases. 😂🤣

Anyways, I never trained for 5ks but I liked to run them. I would go to a run and find someone who I thought would be able to push me. And every single race I ran, I would see people that did not look so athletic, yet they were beating me every time. I could not figure out why.

It was their mindset. Their mindset was stronger than mine. This leads me to believe the critical factor between someone who achieves vs someone who does not, has a great part to do with the mindest.

Our mindset determines the way we deal with tough situations and the setbacks or failures, as well as the willingness to deal with and improve ourselves.

The people with the growth-mindset automatically had the “can do” attitude to succeed because they don’t give up when they fail. Instead, this group of people used failure as a learning opportunity that does nothing but brings them closer to success.

Instead of looking in the mirror and saying I’m not good enough, you might say “I’m going to choose a different path to achieve greatness.”

Success comes from the masterpiece between your ears. The same masterpiece that chooses to leave behind negative beliefs and stories we tell ourselves and replaces them with a positive attitude that says “You got this!” or “I can do this!”

2. Focus on being compatible

Let’s take for example a 3 legged stool. Each leg represents (1) your thoughts, (2) your actions, and (3) your feelings. You need all three legs to be balanced so you don’t fall. Right?

Think of your thoughts, your actions, and your feelings the same way. They all need to be compatible to remain balanced. Al three need to work together to strengthen the stool.

If we think positively, but we feel negative, then how do you think we will act? It’s unpredictable. Correct? Either way, we only have two of the three items to remain balanced.

Positive thinking is powerful, but only when we think of it as one of three necessary legs to reinforce the stool.

So what is the best way to be balanced?

  1. Remember that the way you think is linked to the way you act. When have powerful thoughts about yourself and what you can do, vs what you can’t do, you will build more confidence.
  2. Understand the way you act will impact your attitude. When you tell yourself you can do something repetitively, your mind will believe and so will your success.
  3. Realize the way you feel will reinforce the way you act. The way you feel at this exact moment has a lot to do with the way you carry yourself.

Try this. Puff your chest out and straighten your back. Now smile, even if there is no reason to. How do you feel? Notice how you feel differently?

It’s similar to going to an interview. You dress professionally to feel professional. When you get married, you wear a gown or tux to feel like a bride or groom, or when you put on a uniform. You feel different. This is the same concept.

3. Be mindful of your self-talk

Your self-acceptance is based on your self-talk.

Are you one of those kids where your parents always praised you? Or were you once of those kids whose parents always put you down?

Either way, we all have the ability to respond to our issues and circumstances the way we want. But certainly hearing negative things about yourself from others may take a toll on the way you talk to yourself.

The way we speak to ourselves plays a huge role in the way we perceive ourselves. we are our own worst critics. We treat our friends and families better than ourselves. But is this fair? Some may even treat their enemies better than themselves, depending on how they feel about themselves.

Encourage ourself. Believe that you can do whatever you want to do.

Your self-talk impacts your self-image. Your self-images impact your attitude. Your attitude impacts your ability to succeed.

Drop the limiting attitudes you have about yourself and replace them with a positive attitude.

4. Become an Activationist

There are many people that have great ideas, however, very few of them ever carry them out.

There are two types of people with these ideas: the activationinst and the passivationist.

The Activationists have a lot of ideas and actually “act” on them and without hesitation. They have that “can do” attitude.

On the other hand, the passivationist have just as many ideas, but they do not execute them. The passivation tends to procrastinate or postpone ever working on their ideas to succeed.

I used to be a huge procrastinator. Part of that is because passivationist are often perfectionists too. Perfectionists fear something may go wrong or they may do something wrong and fail. 

However, the activationist goes ahead, fails or not, and completes their idea. If they fail, they learn and pick up until they succeed.

The passivationist waits for the perfect time, where there is never one. And for every day that goes by you don’t act, the least likely you are to ever attempt it.

Final Thoughts

  • It all starts with a mindset. Make sure your mindset is directed towards growth and progress.
  • Positive thinking can only get you so far.  To succeed you need to focus on your thoughts, your feelings, and your actions equally so they are each compatible with the other. We can’t simply think our way to success, we also need to act upon it.
  • Your self-worth depends on your self-talk. Be nice to yourself as you would others.
  • Become an activationist. Don’t allow fear to defeat you. Take action on your ideas and you will become successful.

Now go out and create your “can do” attitude and find your way to success!
