Self-Love: 5 Easy Ways to Obtain Yours Today

In today’s world, we all need to take a break for ourselves and discover what makes us happy. Therefore, we need to discover our own brand and define ourselves through self-love. What makes you tick?

I am a mother of five teenagers. Yes, you read correctly, five teens. So, life can be hectic. I go to games, work, practices, work, appointments, maybe chat with my husband if time allows, work some more….you get it.

Often I would feel guilty attending one event with one of my kids and then missing another with another child. Common sense should tell me “duh, I can’t be two places at one time.” Yet, I often felt guilty anyway.

I found myself not attending functions with my husband or not going out with my friends because I was too tired, stressed, or overwhelmed.

In my prior marriage, I was a victim of domestic abuse for many, many years. Today I am a survivor and sharing my story. I got out of that situation a few years ago. So, this is the reason for writing this blog. It’s part of my therapy.

How about you? Are you altruistic? Can you say “no” to your friends or family? Are you so focused on your kids, you neglect your partner, spouse, significant other, etc? Have you been a victim of something that has made a negative impact on your life?

This does not make you a bad person. But many people lose sight of things that really matter from social pressure, caught up in daily living, or trying to survive the fast-paced corporate world, just to name a few.

I was this person.

Then I found “self-love.” What is that you might ask? For the dictionary version, click here. As far as my version: it is a combination of happiness, inner peace, understanding my feelings and limitations. I have found confidence, self-esteem, and a positive mindset.

Everyone will have their own version. But the bottom line is…..if you can take care of yourself and your needs, you will be a better fit to take care of those around you.

1. It’s a mindset to self-love

Your mindset plays a critical role in how you cope with life’s challenges. If you have a growth mindset, you will see mistakes as opportunities or life lessons. We are not perfect, and there will be times when we see things with negativity but that is okay. It’s how you react that shows your type of mindset.

2. Forgive yourself

Have a conversation with your inner self and take your own advice. Be easy on yourself, we are all flawed. Acknowledge your feelings and give yourself time to heal.

3. Invest in yourself

Do things that make YOU happy. Invest in cultivating friendships, take up a hobby, relax, or do whatever takes away stress. And every once in a while try something out of your comfort zone, you may surprise yourself.

4. Build your self-esteem, confidence, and self-worth

Love yourself, care for and feel proud of YOU. If children, as well as adults, see you believe you are valuable and important, the same will carry over into their lifestyles. They too will make good decisions about themselves which enhance their value rather than break it down.

5. Positive vibes

Surround yourself with positive vibes and good people. Negativity is taxing to your soul, but being around positive people will bring out the best in you as well as project it on others.

To conclude, know and believe you are a valuable and intelligent being. Acknowledge your feelings. You will make mistakes. All of this is what makes life either a journey or an obstacle. Only YOU can create and tell your story the way you want!
