So what is a good life and how can one attain it?
Is it just good enough to live a good life?
Is it possible to move from a good life to a great life?
“Life is too short, enjoy it while it lasts!” is a phrase we hear over and over as we grow older.
- So what is a good life?
*self-filling
*self-satisfying
*personal joy
*enjoyment of small pleasures
Maybe the “good life” is the ability to access the basic things of small pleasures and comfort. Do you think that is fair to say?
What are some qualities of a good life? Think about it. Many feel healthy, feeling good, and looking good both physically and emotionally are good qualities to have.

Happiness is when you are satisfied with life in general, you are content.
Although happiness is often short-lived it sparks enthusiasm to achieve and live a good life.
Pleasure
Pleasure is an experience that makes us feel good.
- It can come in many forms:
* watching our children/grandchildren grow
* money
* hobbies
* it’s basically the ability to access anything you want when you want
* And many more
The form of pleasure will come differently for all as we each have different definitions of pleasure, or what it means to us.
Peace
Peace is a state of physical, mental, and emotional calmness and the feeling of security.
This doesn’t mean there are no challenges but it is the ability to stay afloat during the storms.
Being at peace means the mind is free from worry and anxiety.

Money is essential for life.
Not having money can cause stress.
However, having enough money for your basic needs can create an experience of a good life.
Good Reputation
A good life is not only characterized by what you do or enjoy for yourself, but it’s also about the perceptions others have about you.
Integrity and character are required to earn a good reputation with people. It’s also an important component of life.
I have an article on Character if you want to review it. You can find it here in episode 3 or go to thinkmefirst.com and type the word “character” in the search bar.
How to transition from a good life to a great life
You could just be living a good life. Because, unless you continue to grow, the things you cherish now, may slip out of your hands later.
For example, I have my own online business because I want a better life.
I’ve been working on it for about 1 1/2 years with what comes to a lot of learning about tech, social platforms, marketing, email, and more.
For you it may be rock climbing, starting a non-profit, opening a restaurant, or anything else that may take some extra learning.
To turn a good life into a great life, you have to look beyond your personal pleasure and convenience.
1. Be Committed to Growth
Never be complacent with any level of success you achieve.
Success can sometimes hinder your growth because we stop growing once we achieve success or it has been reached.
Quote by Miles Munroe:
“The greatest enemy of progress is you last success. You could become so proud of what you’ve already accomplished that you stop moving ahead to what you can still accomplish.”
Ex: You’ve reached a goal of losing 20 lbs and you could probably lose more, but you stop there.
Yes, it is a wonderful goal to achieve and you should be excited about it, But what if you could lose more?
My mindset would be, if I lost 20 lbs fasting, imagine what I could lose if I did a little exercise with that?
2. Discover Your Passion
Your passion represents your true desire and what you are wired to do.
Discover what your passion is.
Your greatest source of motivation will likely come from your passion.
3. Find Your Purpose In Life
We measure life by it’s impact, not just by accomplishment.
The focus of life is not only about pleasing yourself but about helping others as well.
4. Cultivate Personal Development
Average people revel in pleasure for the smallest success. But great people celebrate their wins and go on to even greater accomplishment.
Don’t get me wrong, it is very okay to be average. I’m just stating if you want more, you have to go for it!
5. Set Bigger Goals
Formula:
*setting bigger goals + stretching your abilities = greater levels of success
6. Build Your Network
Cultivate the habit of building and nourishing your network.
Networking is meant to be a mutual relationship.
7. Leverage Technology
You can reach people globally with technology. Be sure to take advantage of it and reach out to others.
Final Thoughts
Sometimes we learn our best life lessons as kids but then forget about them as we grow more sophisticated.
Don’t be comfortable with living a good life, when in all fairness, you could be living a great life!
Quote from St. Jerome’s Rhyme:
“Good, better, best. Never let it rest. Until your good is better and your better is best. “
