Closeness Through Social Distancing, Looking At The Positive Side

Closeness through social distancing, do you think it’s possible? It is ironic, but I am starting to see its positive side in many ways. From creativity to adapting to change, helping each other out, acknowledging the important things in life, or doing something new or that has needed to be done. Whatever “it” is,  “it” is most likely due to social distancing, which is indirectly bringing us closer together. It’s a mindset!

First and foremost, a huge shout out to those “essential people” that we are all relying on right now. I do not want to list them in fear of forgetting someone and in times like these, they are all serving importance! Anyways….A super huge THANK YOU!!!!💓😊

So this “social distancing” term, what is its meaning? Well, let’s first start off with the acknowledgment that every child that speaks and anyone that can hear has most likely said it and its brought up at least once a day. It’s the new norm for a while.

Everyone should stay six feet away from each other in efforts to stop the spreading of the current international event. So maybe it should be called physical distancing?

Regardless, social distancing is a “physical act.” Hence, this is why I see social distancing as bringing closeness.

How is this so? Glad you asked. read on, please.

Before I start, I want to disclose that this is a positive post. I comprehend there is ignorance out there and that some people are experiencing negative experiences and for that, I am sorry and sad it’s happening. 😥 For the purpose of this post, I want to focus on what we can control.

Creativity

Close-up of Human Hand

Wow, did you know you had it in you? Improvising, creating, trying new things or doing things differently, we are all doing it, right?

In our neighborhood, there have been parents thinking of something to hang in the windows each week for the kids to seek as they are out walking or riding bikes. We started with shamrocks and this became a counting game for younger kids. Then we grew to a little science lesson by placing flowers in the window since it is the spring season. This week is a bear hunt. They are all over the place.

You see, the creativity is coming out in everyone whether you are the one coming up with the whole idea, or you are the one making the decorations for the kids or making lessons out of them.

And for those of you that have kids, they are getting exercise and learning in the same activity. Sly you are! 🤣

Some of those that lost their jobs are having to be more creative in supporting their families with side hustles or finding a new job, cutting back, or by other means.

Our world needs more creative minds and perhaps this is just the starting point.  Jump out to the box and learn or create something new for you or to share with others. We all have ideas, now what is yours?

Closeness By Adapting To Change

Door, Change, New Beginning, Board, Wood

Well, who here has not had to adapt to change at all? Socking if you have not to some degree. Recently, most of us have had to make a change or two.

How many of you are learning from home right now? My son was worried the other day that he was not going to do well on a chem quiz because he is not used to this online learning style. My response: Think about the professors giving the quiz? Perhaps they were not prepared or even know how to give it on line. It made him think, there are two sides to everything. We are all learning together.

If you are not learning from home, perhaps you are now working from home and never have before. Then think of everything your employer had to do to get you working from home.

And if that is not enough, how about the stay-at-home moms or dads that now have the other spouse, partner or kids there now 24-7?

If you don’t live with anyone, you have had to adapt from not gathering with others in a social environment.

Then we have restrictions in place that keep us from doing certain things creativity begins!!

If this isn’t adapting to change, I guess I am oblivious to the world. But guess what? We are all surviving.

Closeness Developed Through Helping Each Other Out

Kudos to all of those kind souls who are waving rent for a few months, volunteering or working extra hours to help those in need, to the businesses that are making special hours for the elderly and the high risk and much much more. It’s refreshing to see humanity being passed around.

I talk with others all around the USA and we all have something in common right now to converse about. It puts us all on a similar playing field and we are all experiencing this together in one way or another. This international pandemic is bringing closeness and understanding to many all around the world and in return, whether it’s through sharing stats, ideas and more, we are working together to conquer.

Acknowledge The Important Things In Life

Live, Relax, Peaceful, Peace, Health

How many of you have lost a parent, sibling, or loved one at any capacity? We all have, right? I see and hear people saying and writing messages about reaching out to loved ones and checking on them. Especially now when it is much harder to see them if there is any distance between you. But shouldn’t we be doing this often and not just because there is fear in the air?

Which brings me to my next point. I am stoked to see the pace of the world slowing down so we can see the actual beauty of each and every day brought to us. There are no long commutes. People are home with their families or reaching out to their loved ones more often.

For me, I see my neighbors so much more now, than I ever had through walking and passing by on the sidewalks.

I am learning more about my adorable husband having to spend so much more time together. 😂🤣😁

And the communication between my teammates and I have never been so frequent. And the kicker is, we all sat in the same row at work. Yet, we were so busy, never had much time to really know them.

So now is the time to share the closeness with your household, reach out to those loved ones and check on them, and stay in touch with those who are close to you. Slow down and enjoy each and every moment!

Do Something New For Yourself And Those Around you

Do Something Great neon sign

My call to action for you is to challenge yourself to do something new for yourself. Maybe you have been wanting to start a blog, take a class online. or create a new project. Don’t think about it. Do it!

Then challenge those around you to do something new. Maybe start a neighborhood challenge or challenge surrounding neighborhoods to a friendly competition. Perhaps it’s getting the most steps in, the most miles posted while getting outside. Activities like this bring closeness to a community in a positive way.

How about teaching others to cook, sew, fix a car or create a project. Then the results can be posted for everyone to see. Perhaps even recipes shared or instructions you used are provided. The ideas are endless.

The end goal is to learning from each other, helping each other through creativity, challenging our minds for the greater good and making the most of the simple things we have at hand.

Until then, love each other, take care and Think Me First!
